LEE HICKS

Director of Bands, Fontainebleau High School

Mr. Hicks is in the twelfth year as the Director of Bands at Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville, Louisiana. He received his Bachelor of Music education degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in May 2002. Under his direction, the FHS Band program has become one of the most well-rounded and successful programs in Louisiana. Notable performances include several Crimson Band performances for the New Orleans Saints, Fontainebleau Jazz Ensemble One performances at the 2010 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and for the 2011 Jazz Educators Network International Conference, and several performances by the Fontainebleau Wind Symphony for internationally known composers James Curnow, Phillip Sparke, and Mark Camphouse. Mr. Hicks feels blessed to be working with incredible students, parents and supportive administration.

 

Before returning to school for his degree in music education, Mr. Hicks played music professionally around the city of New Orleans and the Gulf South region. He continues to perform professionally as often as possible. He has performed with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Seanger Theater Broadway Orchestra, the JPAS Broadway Pit Orchestra, the Crescent River Orchestra, the Jimmy Maxwell Orchestra, the Pat Barberot Orchestra, the Tulane Summer Lyric Theater Orchestra Band and the John Mahoney Big in addition to numerous brass bands, soul, funk, rock and Latin bands. He served as orchestra contractor for Le Petit Theater du Vieux Carre and the Rivertown Repertory Theater for more than 10 years. He has also performed with celebrities such as Bernadette Peters, Barry Manilow, Lou Rawls, Shirley Jones, Wayne Newton, Bobby Vinton, Regis Philbin, Susan Lucci, Frankie Avalon, Fabian, Bobby Rydell, Don Rickles, John “Papa” Gros, Johnny Mathis, Jerry Lewis, Natalie Cole, and several others. He has recorded for Six Flags Entertainment, The National D-Day Museum, several New Orleans musicians and composers, The John Mahoney Big Band and with the jazz vocal group Five by Design.

 

An active clinician and adjudicator, Mr. Hicks belongs to several music organizations including the Louisiana Music Educators Association in which he is the Louisiana Jazz Division Chairman, Music Educators National Conference, Jazz Educators Network, and is a board member for the Louisiana association of Jazz Educators. He and his wife Becky, who is also a professional musician and a middle school band teacher, are the proud parents of two wonderful sons, Kenton and Carson.

Mr. Miller serves as the Assistant Director of Bands at Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville, Louisiana. Mr. Miller previously served as the Assistant Director of Bands at Thibodaux High School in Lafourche Parish for two years. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Southeastern Louisiana University in Fall 2014. As a trumpet player, he performed as a member of the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble I & II, and the Spirit of the Southland Marching Band while attending SLU. He is an alumni member of the Delta Omega chapter of Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity and an alumni member of the Lambda Xi chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi.

 

Mr. Miller was also a member of the Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps in 2012, where the group was awarded placement of top 10 in the DCI World Class Finals. He has performed in the pit orchestra for several musicals at Le Petit Theater in New Orleans as well as played in the orchestra for several churches around the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas.

 

Mr. Miller is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the Louisiana Music Educators Association. He is committed to shaping the young musicians of the generations to come.
