Ensembles

The Fontainebleau Jazz Ensemble One (FJEO) is made up of a select group of students who are interested in playing big band jazz at its highest levels.

This ensemble performs at many local cultural events, school concerts, jazz festivals, and special events throughout the community. In February 2006 the FJEO opened up for the late Maynard Ferguson and his Big Bop Nouveau where they also performed his popular hit “Theme from Rocky” with the jazz legend. The Fontainebleau band program has also hosted the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Count Basie Orchestra in live concerts held on and off the FHS campus.

The Wind Symphony is the top performing concert group in the band program. This ensemble performs at the winter and spring concerts, district festival, state festival, and any other festivals or events that might be appropriate for the group to attend.  Students in this ensemble are highly skilled on their instruments are required to perform some of the most difficult band literature.

The Fontainebleau High School Wind Symphony has performed for Philip Sparke and Mark Camphouse at the Loyola Invitational band festival and has been able to work with some fantastic conductors and educators.

The Concert Band is the third performing concert ensemble and includes members working toward the highest goals in music. Emphasis with this group is on instrumental technique and fundamentals, ensemble rehearsal skills, music literacy, music history, and performance practice.

The best in wind literature, as well as the standard classics, serves as the group’s repertoire. Music will include all grade levels but will mostly focus on high school level music literature. Students will have the opportunity to perform in other school ensembles such as Jazz Ensemble One, Jazz Workshop, and chamber ensembles. Students also perform in one of the other concert bands ...if the student is interested in playing more than one instrument.
